This method is based on the direct doping of dielectric matrices with plasmonic nanoparticles and enables the fabrication of volumetric three-dimensional materials through a non-chemical/direct process. The concept is based on utilising matrices with lower melting temperatures than those of the admixed nanoparticles. In this way, a variety of nanoparticles—of several different sizes, shapes and chemical compositions—can be introduced into the matrix, even when other doping agents such as rare-earth ions are present. This method may enable manufacturing materials on-demand for particular applications.
